Full and part time hours considered
£14.10- £17.54 per hour DOE (plus enhancements and competitive benefits)

Sue Ryder is here to make sure everyone approaching the end of their life or living with grief can access the support they need. There is no one-size-fits-all when it comes to how we cope and the help we need, but with our support, no one has to face dying or grief alone.

We are there when it matters.

About us

Our hospice is Gloucestershire’s only inpatient unit for specialist palliative care. You can also be cared for in your own home, or receive virtual support from our day hospice and outpatient services in the comfort of your own home. We will help you live the best life you possibly can.

About the Role

In palliative care no day is the same. Working on our inpatient unit provides a unique opportunity because we care for patients with such a variety of conditions and symptoms. If you’d like to develop your knowledge of many different conditions and the impact this has on patients and their families a role in palliative care with Sue Ryder is for you.
Our nurses play an indispensable role in providing compassionate, holistic care for patients with life-limiting illnesses. Their work extends far beyond medical tasks, encompassing emotional, psychological, and spiritual support for both patients and their families.

Our registered nurses work on a rotational shift pattern, including early shifts, late shifts, long days, nights, and weekends. As this role supports a 24/7 service, we are seeking candidates with flexibility to work a range of shifts as required.

The successful applicants will play an active role within our multidisciplinary team. You will work alongside Specialty Doctors, therapy staff, volunteers and other vital members of the MDT taking a holistic approach in providing the best possible outcomes for each patient.
Duties include but are not limited to:
• Providing support, leadership, recognition and supervision to junior members of staff
• Assess, plan, implement and evaluate individualised clinical care for service users
• Using evidence-based practice to develop and maintain high-quality care
• Ensuring that the team provide all care in line with the care plan.
• Helping to organise the admission and discharge of service users

About you:

Sue Ryder prides itself on giving our patients the best possible quality of life by providing a holistic and individualised service.
Our ideal candidate will have experience of working in Palliative and End of Life Care. This experience may come from a hospice or alternatively, for example, from a high dependency unit or oncology service. They will have a genuine desire to improve the lives of those living with a life limiting condition. Our empathetic, skilled and motivated nurses are the true foundation of what Sue Ryder does.

To become a registered Nurse at Sue Ryder you will need:

Essential Minimum Criteria:

NMC registration and experience delivering inclusive patient care
Ability to assess, plan, and deliver care with appropriate adjustments
Skilled in accessible documentation and patient communication
Commitment to upholding patients’ dignity, rights, and autonomy

Desirable Criteria:

Experience in palliative or hospice care
Mentorship qualification or experience supporting learners

We will provide a thorough induction with supernumerary time to settle into the role and full training/competency assessment will be provided.

There is plenty of scope to further develop your own skills in specialist palliative care, and planned career progression through our education programme and development framework is encouraged.

If you would like to arrange an informal visit to our hospice, please let us know.
