Sue Ryder has an exciting opportunity as we seek to appoint a Chief of Staff to join our senior leadership team. The Chief of Staff will be a trusted advisor and confidant to the CEO, playing a crucial role in the success of the organisation.
Partnering with the CEO and Executive Leadership Team this role will facilitate key initiatives and decision making whilst ensuring organisational goals are aligned across all departments.
About the role:
This role is a high-level, strategic role responsible for supporting the operations of the executive team, facilitating cross-functional projects, and ensuring that business objectives are achieved.
The Chief of Staff will oversee various aspects of the management and logistics of the Executive’s work, including supporting the Board of Trustees. This includes scheduling meetings and agendas, interactions with colleagues, presentations, and ensuring that executives remain up to date and effective in their roles.
Activities include:
• Supporting the implementation of strategic initiatives, from development through execution, planning timetables for Board meetings, agreeing the schedule under the supervision of the Chief Executive and working closely with the Strategy Team.
• Assisting executive leadership in decision-making and programme management, facilitating planning, timescales, co-ordinating meetings as required
• Reviewing, designing and implementing improvements to organisational procedures and structure to increase efficiency and progress strategic developments and improve workflow throughout the company.
• Work closely with the Strategy Team to provide analysis, insights, and recommendations to the executive team, helping inform strategic decisions.
• Act as a central point of communication between the Chief Executive, Trustees, senior leaders, and external stakeholders, ensuring transparency and clarity and effective liaison with the Director of Communications.
• Identify potential roadblocks, highlight risk, and proactively find solutions to challenges facing the business.
• Work with the Project Management team to produce key performance metrics, tracking that business objectives are met and helping to update the Board as needed.
• Oversee planning and execution of Board and leadership meetings, off-site events, and internal initiatives.
• Liaise with the Director of Risk regarding the risk assessment of new initiatives and business decisions
• Mediate and resolve issues before they reach the executive level, and addressing complex organisational challenges with innovative solutions
About you:
You will have exceptional leadership, business acumen, and problem-solving skills plus the strategic foresight to anticipate challenges and opportunities before they arise.
• Experience in supporting large-scale projects across departments, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with business goals.
• Strong strategic and analytical skills, with the ability to think big-picture while facilitating the details.
• Proven track record of organising and co-ordinating multi-disciplinary teams
• Possess a can-do attitude and a strong desire for efficiency
• A business-minded strategic planner with experience in data analysis and budget support
• Consulting experience with a focus on operations management
• Self-motivated, self-sufficient and highly reliable
• Deep understanding of business operations, with the ability to facilitate change and improve performance across teams
• A proactive, solution-oriented mindset with the ability to foresee challenges and address them effectively.
Minimum Essential criteria:
• Proven experience of Senior management and leadership experience
• Experience of strategy co-ordination across a large, complex organisation
• Experience of Board support and co-ordination, planning meetings and agendas, ensuring compliance
• Proficiency in modern project management tools, Microsoft Office Suite, and data analysis software.
