Be There when it matters.
Are you looking for a new challenge and the opportunity to make a real difference within your community? Would you like to feel valued in your role and learn from the experts working within a friendly and supportive team. Do you want to give care where the focus is on the quality of care given, not on the length of time spent in a patient’s home?
About us:
Sue Ryder supports people through the most difficult times of their lives. Whether that’s a terminal illness, or the loss of a loved one – we’re there when it matters. Our doctors, nurses and carers give people the compassion and expert care they need to help them live the best life they possibly can.
Thorpe Hall Hospice is based in Peterborough. We’re here for people aged 18 and over who are living with conditions like cancer, heart failure and lung disease. We offer a range of support to patients and their families including inpatient care in our 20 bed hospice, a day service for those with long-term conditions and support in the community through our Hospice at Home and bereavement services.
Hospice at Home teams provide specialist hands-on care and support in people’s homes or usual place of residence when they are approaching the end of their life. Our care is available day and night, giving patients and families specialist support at a very difficult time. We are seeking compassionate and dedicated Senior Healthcare Assistant to join our expanding Hospice at Home Service to provide palliative and end of life care in the Greater Peterborough community.
About the Role:
The successful applicant will play an active role within our team, providing excellent personalised care, enabling patients to be cared for in their own homes surrounded by their families and loved ones. It's all about giving them the best possible quality of life. The support we offer is tailored to meet individuals' medical, social, spiritual and emotional needs.
The service runs 7 days per week, 24 hours per day. You will be required to work on a rota basis where the shifts could be up to 12 hours and these could be either during the day or overnight.
About you:
• Relevant experience in Palliative or End of Life Care is ideal however care experience in a similar setting is essential.
• Access to your own transport is essential with a full UK driving licence.
• You will need to be able to demonstrate the ability to work well within a team as well as on your own, use initiative, organise your workload and have excellent communication skills.
• You must be IT literate as this role requires remote working with a Laptop
Benefits:
• Competitive enhanced pay for nights, weekends and public holidays, with an annual pay review.
• Mileage allowance if using your own vehicle rather than Sue Ryder pool car.
• Continuation of NHS pension**
• Generous Holiday entitlement starting at 27 days a year per annum pro rata, rising to 33 with length of service, plus bank/public holidays.
• Company pension scheme.
• ‘Refer a friend’ Cash referral bonus scheme.
• Recognition for longevity of service and outstanding contributions.
• Family friendly work policies.
• Access to exclusive discounts, cash back and vouchers via PeoplePerks, Blue Light card and staff discount of 10% at the Sue Ryder online shop.
• Free parking, subsidised meals & drinks.
• Free uniform and DBS provided.
• Excellent induction and training for all new starters, with further training and development available to all staff from Sue Ryder clinical educators and wider multi-disciplinary team.
• Wellbeing centre providing a range of online support and 24/7 counselling services and free will writing service.
• Development opportunities for all through our structured development framework.

If you want more than just a job, we want you.
Join the team and be there when it matters.
At Sue Ryder, we can’t make life’s most difficult moments easy, but we can carry some of the load. For more than 70 years, we have been a source of strength and support for anyone living with a life-limiting illness or grief.
Dying and grief are universal experiences, but too many people face them alone. We are a safe and reassuring hand you can reach for. From providing care and support for someone at the end of their life to helping someone manage their grief, we know there is no one size fits all when it comes to how we cope and the help we need. We campaign for everyone who is approaching the end of their life or grieving to have access to the right support, at the right time. And we seek to break down the barriers to talking about dying and grief - so we can all be better prepared and better equipped to be there for each other.
We can make a positive difference during even the darkest of times. Whether in the last months, weeks or days of life, or living with grief, we help people live the best life they possibly can. We are there when it matters.
