Sue Ryder is seeking a dynamic and visionary Regional Director of Healthcare Operations, to oversee our healthcare service in the North East and Yorkshire and lead our strategy for growth across the region.
About Us
Sue Ryder is a national charity providing expert care for people with life-limiting conditions. We operate across seven regions, working closely with healthcare professionals, local authorities, and voluntary organisations to ensure individuals receive compassionate and person-centred support.
Sue Ryder is here to make sure everyone approaching the end of their life or living with grief can access the support they need. There is no one size fits all when it comes to how we cope and the help we need, but with our support, no one has to face dying or grief alone.

The Role
As the Regional Director of Healthcare Operations, you will be at the forefront of our mission, playing a pivotal role in shaping and delivering innovative models of care. You will be responsible for the overall performance, operational delivery, and financial management of your healthcare region, ensuring that services are safe, effective, and continuously improving.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading and developing a high-performing, inclusive, and compassionate team.
- Driving the implementation of our new PEoLC strategy to create a sustainable and impactful care ecosystem.
- Establishing and maintaining strong relationships with NHS partners, commissioners, and the voluntary sector to enhance service delivery.
- Ensuring financial and operational excellence, meeting regulatory and governance requirements.
- Acting as a visible and inspiring leader, championing our values and mission at all levels.
About You
We are looking for a strategic, results-driven leader with:
- A postgraduate-level qualification or equivalent experience in healthcare or the third sector.
- A strong background in senior healthcare leadership, operational management, and service transformation.
- Exceptional relationship-building and negotiation skills, with a proven ability to influence key stakeholders.
- Financial and strategic planning expertise, ensuring sustainable and high-quality care delivery.
- A commitment to inclusive leadership, fostering a culture of collaboration, learning, and continuous improvement.
- A kind, patient-centred attitude and approach with a strong focus on addressing inequalities, diversity, and inclusion.
