About us

Wheatfields Hospice is in Headingley, Leeds. We provide expert palliative care. We support people living with a life-limiting condition, and also help their loved ones and family.

About the Role

Sue Ryder offers a great opportunity for an Assistant Practitioner to join our dedicated Therapies and Nursing team within our Day Treatment Unit at Wheatfields Hospice. Your role will be to provide best possible quality care and support to service users and their carers/family.

You will support the assessment, planning, consistent implementation and evaluation of high standards of personalised nursing care or therapy for patients with specialist palliative care needs all under the direction of a registered professional.

The successful candidate will be required to support patients coming into the hospice for various therapeutic sessions to help them live as well as possible with their conditions. These sessions will include coping with breathlessness, exercise, psychological support and therapeutic activities.

Additional training will be provided, and it is most important to us that we find individuals with the right attributes to help patients live life to the fullest.

About you

We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual with post registration experience in specialist palliative care. You will have excellent communication and clinical skills to provide and maintain a high standard of Palliative care delivery. You will be forward thinking and willing to contribute to the ongoing development of our Day Treatment Services.

You will have an active role in developing and implementing changes in the service.

We provide educational opportunities and offer clinical supervision to enable continuous personal development.

To be considered for this role you must have:

• Level 5 Foundation Degree in Assistant Practitioner (Healthcare)
• Experience of working with service users with palliative care needs
• Experience of working within a clinical setting
• Effective verbal and written communication
