As an Activities Assistant this is your chance to enhance the lives of our residents by providing a range of activities both within and outside our care units. You'll need to really care about how people spend their days and how you can encourage choice and independence.
You need to be highly adaptable to different situations and flexible in your approach. What's more, you don't necessarily need to come from a healthcare background; experience in a social care-based role, such as working with people with disabilities, is just as valuable.
Specifically as an Activities Assistant you'll need:
• a relevant NVQ3 (or be willing to study for one)
• a great track record in delivering recreational and social activities in a similar environment
• fantastic people skills - both on a one-to-one basis and within a team
• Understanding of health/social care sector and procedures
Sue Ryder provides incredible hospice and neurological care for people facing a frightening, life changing diagnosis. We do whatever we can to be a safety net for our patients and their loved ones at the most difficult time of their lives. We see the person, not the condition
Stagenhoe is a Sue Ryder specialist neurological care centre based in Hertfordshire, caring for people aged 18 and over who have life-changing conditions affecting the brain and nervous system. We are here for people with degenerative conditions which get worse over time - such as Huntington's, motor neurone disease, multiple sclerosis and Parkinson's - as well as those with acquired conditions resulting from a brain or spinal injury or stroke. We offer a huge range of support, from long-term residential care in our 45-bed centre to short-stay respite care. Short stays can be for a few days or a few weeks, depending on the needs of the individual.
***Due to its rural location it is essential that candidates have access to their own transport.***
We are also seeking Activities Assistants to join our bank register. - The great benefit about being on the talent bank is the flexibility it provides for both you and the Charity. You have control over when you want to work to fit in with your lifestyle.
